The famous saying ”What goes around comes around’’ originated in the United States in the 1970s. The earliest appearance in print was in 1974 in Eddie Stone’s book, ’’Donald Writes No More’’. Its Russian equivalent is ’’As the call, so is the echo’’. All religions and cultures in some form hold this idea to be true. For example in Mesopotamia Hamurabi an ancient ruler created the first code of laws. It contained this little nugget which you will recognize – “An eye for an eye…”

In a couple of days I will be attending the Baccalaureate Ceremony of my best friend’s daughter and I have to say I’m really excited about it! Can’t wait to dress up and join the festivities. A Baccalaureate Ceremony dates back to the Middle Ages when meaningful symbols were associated with the conferring of a degree. This is a highlight of the academic year and a time to rejoice, praise, honor and celebrate learning. It is also a time to recognize, in a formal manner, the achievements of our friends, relatives and colleagues.

I just love spring! There’s no other season like it, everywhere I look there’s flowers, fresh green grass, blossom trees – true beauty! Did you know that in the ancient Rome, the arrival of Spring was a time to honor Flora, the goddess of flowers? Every year, from April 28 to May 3, a Floralia party was held and all the gardens of Rome were abundant with flowers.

Don’t you just love spring? The nature comes to life: flowers are blooming, trees are green, sun is shinning and happiness is in the air – at least that’s how I feel about this season. Spring is probably my favorite time of the year, alongside Christmas of course, because it just makes me feel more alive than ever.

What’s the point of prayer? April 2, 2010

There are some (like me) who see prayer as a way of relief and some that see it like a total waste of time. Those who see it as an action with no calling for usually think this way: “If the gods are so divine, so powerful, don’t they know already what our wishes, our problems are? Do we really need to tell them and ask for help?” Well, you kind of do need to tell them. Just think of it this way: sometimes we don’t know for sure what we really want so it may be hard for the gods to know exactly what it is that we want.

I keep hearing about the benefits of energy healing and I can’t help but wonder how this type of healing exactly works; is it a science, is it some kind of magical power? Because I can’t have my questions unanswered I did some research.

(Not so) Happy St. Patrick’s Day! March 17, 2010

You may be wondering why I’m so down on St. Patty’s Day, but there IS a reason: While most people just associate St. Patrick’s Day with parades, green things and alcohol, it’s a much more serious affair in Ireland. It also has special meaning for us Pagans. Most everybody knows that St. Patrick is hailed as being the saint who drove all the “evil snakes” out of Ireland.
