Ancient Temple to Mithras Discovered in France October 10, 2010

Just at the end of last month, archeologists have discovered a third-century sanctuary dedicated to the Indo-Iranian god Mithras near Angers, France. The discovery consists of a small, rectangular chapel, in which it is believed that worshippers celebrated the god and offered him sacrifices. The “tauroctony”, a typical bas-relief of the god Mithras wearing his Phrygian cap shows and slaughtering a bull, is also present in the sanctuary.

Very important announcement! One of the world’s greatest research libraries, the British Library has digitized 284 Greek manuscripts and made them available online. But that is not the only good news; thanks to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation ‘s grant, all the information is free.

Starting the first week of September, all fortune tellers and psychics in Warren, Mich. must be fingerprinted and pay an annual fee of $150 plus $10 for a police background check, to be allowed to practice their crafts. Warren city-council member Keith Sadowski declared: “We had no mechanism of enforcement to protect people against unsavory characters. We want to be sure there is some recourse in case we do get somebody who is not legitimate.” These new strict rules will apply to clairvoyants, palmists, fortune readers and other psychics.

The wonders of modern technology! Two brilliant researchers from the University of Huddersfield, UK, Bruno Fazenda and Rupert Hill, have recently developed a method of measuring a site’s acoustic fingerprint. What they do exactly is they “measure the impulse response of a location”, hoping that they can determine how it may have sounded thousand of years ago. Also, it seems that such actions can also help archeologists determine if placement was deliberate or not. Amazing!

World Vision charity is now allowed to fire employees who are not sharing the organization’s faith. Because World Vision is a religious organization, it has been exempt from provisions of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Here’s some disturbing news. According to a recent study conducted by the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra charity, 200 women accused of witchcraft are being killed yearly in poverty stricken villages in India. According to Avdhash Kaushal, chairman of the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra, most victims were single women and widows. The punishment rituals went like this: women were forced to drink urine or even eat excrement in public and then paraded naked for the entire village to see them. This is unbelievably cruel and what’s even more disturbing is that a large number of women commit suicide after being publicly humiliated.

Skeleton Blodwen Goes On Display In Her Home Town July 15, 2010

Blodwen, a skeleton of a woman who lived 5,500 years ago was brought back to her home town, in Llandudno, Conwy County where she was discovered in 1891. an engineer excavating quarry works, discovered the skeleton in a fissure. According to tests, the woman died around the year 3510 BC, and was in her late fifties or early sixties.

A team of divers excavating the ruins of Cleopatra’s palace, located off the coast of Alexandria, since the early 1990’s has recently discovered “everything from coins and everyday objects to colossal granite statues of Egypt’s rulers and sunken temples dedicated to their gods.”
