Cerne Abbas Giant: A Figure of Fertility August 12, 2010
Posted by The Wayward Wiccan in : Random Ramblings , trackbackThe 180 ft Cerne Abbas Giant located in Dorset has been said to cure fertility issues and bless women with children since Victorian times and now it has been reported that the women living in surrounding areas have the highest birth rates in the country! That’s right, according to the latest figures; these ladies have an average of three kids each which is almost double the national average!
According to folklore, if a woman sleeps on the Cerne Abbas Giant figure she will be “blessed with fecundity”. Also it is said that by having sexual relations on top of the figure, infertility may be cured. Katie Raine, a nursery manager, said “We have a baby unit for five infants, and that’s booked until next year, so there’s definitely a baby boom on.”
It has also been stated that since 2000 when the birth rates were 1.16 child per woman, have been rising and have reached 1.97 child per woman in 2008. According to North Dorset’s survey, the fertility rates are the highest recorded since 1964 when it was revealed that women were likely to produce 2.93 children in a lifetime.
What do you think about this? Does the Giant have anything to do with the baby boom in Dorset?
